Requirements:
Resident of North Tonawanda, NY
At least 18 years of age
Willing to complete basic fire training within 2 years of joining - NY Law
Must possess a valid New York State Drivers License
BENEFITS:
Scholarships: As an incentive for individuals to serve in New York's volunteer fire service, the Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY) has developed the Higher Education Learning Plan (FASNY HELP). This program will provide 100% tuition reimbursement (with any single semester award to not exceed $1,500) to student-volunteers attending a New York State chartered college or taking online courses through Empire State College, as long as they are providing active service to a New York State volunteer department. There is no restriction on the type of academic course(s) the FASNY HELP student-volunteer can pursue.
Income Tax Break: The Volunteer Firefighters' and Ambulance Workers' Credit is available to full-year New York State residents who are active volunteer firefighters or volunteer ambulance workers.

STEP 1 – COMPLETE & SUBMIT THE APPLICATION ABOVE
STEP 2 – BACKGROUND CHECK
Using the information, you’ve provided as part of your application for membership, we’ll work with the North Tonawanda Fire Department Training Officer to conduct a arson background check as required by New York State law for all applicants. You will be responsible for going to the North Tonawanda Police Station and having a police background sent directly to the firehall at:

STEP 3 – INTERVIEW
Once / if we receive a positive response from the background checks, you’ll then be asked to come in for an interview with members of the membership committee and fire advisory board. During the meeting we’ll review with you all of the requirements for membership, and this will be your opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
STEP 4 – VOTING
After your interview, your application will then be brought up before the general membership at the next monthly meeting. New members are accepted by a majority vote of the members at that meeting.
